OUR MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME

Every year Mizizi Sounds of the Nile will identify and scout for talents (groups or individuals) to participate in our 3-year mentorship program. The mentorship program is set up to develop the careers of traditional artists to international standards.

The mentees of 2018 are: Busoga Sounds Xylophone Group (Mayuge), Rubanga Ki ngom Aye kwo youth group (Gulu), Ever Ready Ndara Group (Kiryandongo), Mizizi Adungu Group (Kampala), Mzee Ekuka (Lira), Cissy Namatovu (Kampala) and Peter Lokale (South Sudan)

The mentorship program comprises of local clinics at the artists location conducted by Mizizi Ensemble and residency training where the international mentor Cheick Tidiane Seck from Mali will work with the mentees. Interchanges between the mentees are important to learn from each other and make a strong coalition of professional traditional artists.

MIZIZI SOUNDS OF THE NILE

The annual Mizizi Sounds of the Nile Festival will showcase our mentees together with celebrated artists from across Africa and even beyond.

The international line-up for the 2018 edition is Oliver Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe), Habib Koité (Mali) and Hoba Hoba Spirit (Morocco). They are accompanied by great Ugandan artists like Myko Ouma, Mubaku Group, Ngoma Troupe among others.

Three days of great sounds will fill the air at Mizizi Cultural Hub in Katurikire (Kiryandongo District)

SYMPOSIUM

The annual Mizizi Sounds of the Nile Symposium will reflect on themes in relation to arts, peace, prosperity and cultural tourism. What is the role of artist in those topics? How was that in the past? And how can we relate that to the future?

In 2018 the Symposium will be held on Friday 16 November at Hope North (Kitwange Village, Kiryandongo) and will host international renowned peace advocates to present their papers.
